HS Codes in the United States

Key facts

  • US HTS codes appear as 10 digits with dots, e.g. 8471.30.0100.
  • The HTS has three duty columns: General (MFN), Special (free trade agreements), and Column 2 (higher rates for a few countries).
  • The USITC maintains the schedule; Customs and Border Protection (CBP) enforces it. Rates change regularly — always check the current revision.
  • US shippers must also handle Chapter 99 codes for Section 301 China tariffs where applicable.
