HS Code Full Form — Harmonized System

The full form of HS is the "Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System", often called simply the Harmonized System. It is maintained by the World Customs Organization (WCO) in Brussels.

The system was introduced in 1988 and is now used by more than 200 countries and economies, covering over 98% of world merchandise trade.

In the United States the equivalent national schedule is called the HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule), which builds directly on the international 6-digit HS codes.
